Drugstore Makeup Tutorial for Summer 2011!

LiveLoveLaughs1209 requested a drugstore makeup tutorial. At first I was like...drugstore? But I own very few drugstore products! However, I took the opportunity to get an education in affordable makeup. My naivete was short lived when the first product I purchased was a total DUD! So buyer's beware - Revlon Cream Shadow Quads are bad news bears! However, I found some really nice drugstore products that I am really starting to love! Enjoy!

Mac Packed to Go with Bold Lip - Cool Tones

I really wanted to use pinks and purples in this tutorial using the Mac Packed To Go 6 Smokey Cool Palette. I decided to opt for a bold lip with more muted eyes. At first I wasn't in love with this look because I thought my eyes looked a bit tired. However, I think had I added a bit of A Brown Suit under the eye, the look would have been a little bit more wearable for my warm skin tone. So, my suggestion for warm toned people like me is this: use Mac A Brown Suit under the eye just at the outer corner of the lash line to make the eyes pop a bit more and not look so tired. Mac Tendersmoke is pretty, but mixed with A Brown Suit, I think it would look more wearable. I hope you all enjoy!

Face of the Day - Pink Stained Lips and Gold Shimmery Eyes

This is an easy face of the day using golds on the eyes and browns, with a pink lip stain. Since summer is approaching, I have really wanted to do more looks using golds and pinks. I have been really drawn to antique golds in particular, like Mac's Antique Gold Glitter and Bobbi Brown's Antique Gold Metallic Eyeshadow. I decided to use Bobbi Brown's Metallic Cream Eyeshadow in Antique Gold for this look. I wanted the eyes to sparkle, but not be too crazy or out there that this look wasn't wearable. So instead of using a lip gloss or lipstick, I went for a pink lip stain. I think the results look really nice and it's one of my favorite face of the day's that I have done thus far. In my opinion, this look ended up being soft, yet chic and effortless with the metallic antique gold eyes and soft pink lip stain. Enjoy!

Trend Makeup - Stained Lips and Edgy-Messy Eyes

This is an edgy smokey look inspired by the makeup I have been seeing in a lot of magazines from Fashion Week. I've seen the red lip as a huge trend as well as a love of smokey, smudgy eyes. I decided instead of doing a full on red lip, I would keep the lips more wearable and trendy and go with a smudged out red lip. I hope you all enjoy!

Face of the Day - Muted Colorful Eyes with Bright Lips

I wanted to do a look incorporating muted turquoise greens, grays and purples, however I didn't want the look to look clownish. I decided on this look because I thought the lips would bring some brightness while the eyes remained subtle and muted enough to be wearable. The trick to keeping your eyes simple is to use brown eyeliner instead of black eyeliner. It really helps to keep the eyes soft wand pretty. I hope you all enjoy!

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick - Burst of Color and Dryness!!!

I must say, when I first started applying Revlon's Colorburst lipstick, I was feeling pretty good about it. I thought it might be comparable to MAC's Amplified Cream.  It went on smooth and creamy and simply felt great on my lips.  However, as time went on and I wore it, it just kinda felt dry on my lips and left them feeling really dry after removing the lipstick.  You would definitely need to exfoliate well before wearing this one.  So, no, I'd have to say.."not a fan!"

Lip Combo Review - Covergirl Divine Lipstick and Revlon Orchid Lipgloss

I have heard a lot of good reviews of Revlon lip products lately, so when I was at the store this afternoon I decided to pick up a Revlon lipgloss. While there, I found this lovely lipstick by CoverGirl. I decided I should do a lip combo with the two colors and review them each for you.

I ended up buying Revlon Colorburst Lip Gloss in Orchid and CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Divine. These colors are both great for creating a nice cool-toned pink lipstick combination. I love the Revlon Colorburst because it's a fairly nude gloss with a light gold shimmer which just enhances the lips without making them look overly glossed. I also like how the Revlon Colorburst Lip Glosses are not sticky or gummy. They are really smooth on the lips. My only negative on this product has to do with packaging. I really dislike the applicator on the Revlon Colorburst Lip Glosses, I find it very difficult to apply the product. I also dislike the scent.

I really love the smooth and creamy texture of the CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipsticks, however the creaminess does take away from lasting power. Additionally, I dislike the scent of the lipstick because it does not cover up the play-dough-like smell of the product. I also wish the tip of the CoverGirl Lip Perfection's bullet or applicator was less pointed and more rounded for easier application upon first use.

Please also note, CoverGirl's Lip Perfection Lipstick in Divine is a close dupe for Mac's Up the Amp and a little less pink than Mac's Peacocky! Yay!!!!

I hope you find this review helpful! Enjoy!
